The Stress, Environment, and Weight (SEW) Center is a collaborative group of UCSF, UCB, and UCD researchers that aims to reduce the prevalence and adverse consequences of obesity, including related metabolic diseases and disorders. Our focus is on the role of social disadvantage and stress on diet and obesity. Our goal is to develop and test novel interventions targeting the food environment and biological pathways by which stress and reward from palatable food influence eating behaviors and fat deposition. We also aim to help develop public policies that will aid in reducing obesity.

Our 6th Annual SEW Center & COAST Symposium, "Stress, Obesity, & Pregnancy: The Next Generation" was a tremendous success. We had over 150 attendees from a variety of backgrounds, including students, researchers, health providers, and individuals from the Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Francisco public health departments.
We are very grateful to our presenters for sharing their research and findings, to our volunteers for making the event run so smoothly, and to our attendees for their thought provoking questions and insights. We cannot wait to do it again.
