  • Katrina Abuabara, MD

    Dr. Abuabara studies the impact of inflammatory skin disease on overall health and the role of the skin in the aging process. Her interdisciplinary scientific approach combines genomic, physiological, environmental, and psychosocial variables to understand patient outcomes over time. Her goal is to develop truly personalized interventions that address both the pathophysiological and sociocultural aspects of disease to improve the lives of patients.

    As faculty in the Joint Program in Medical Anthropology (UCSF/UC Berkeley), I am committed to making a contribution to knowledge and insight about the interface between health and the harm that arises from that which cannot be strictly called biological. I have published on a range of topics, including ethnomedicine and global health, the politics of medical knowledge, post disaster climate harm, metrics, safe motherhood, social justice, agrochemical industries and academic capitalism.

  • Michelle A Albert, MD, MPH

    Dr. Michelle A. Albert, MD MPH is the Walter A. Haas-Lucie Stern Endowed Chair in Cardiology and Professor in Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF), Admissions Dean for UCSF Medical School and Director of the CeNter for the StUdy of AdveRsiTy and CardiovascUlaR DiseasE (NURTURE Center). Dr. Albert is a graduate of Haverford College, the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Harvard School of Public Health. She completed Internal Medicine Residency and served as Chief Medical Resident at Columbia University Medical Center in New York. Dr.

    As a Professor in the Family Health Care Nursing department at UCSF, my career has been dedicated to conducting impactful research and addressing important issues in the field of family health care. I have authored several research publications covering a wide range of topics, including early care and education programs/child care, environmental exposure, autonomic nervous system, and healthy habits including physical activity and nutrition.

    My research interests lie at the intersections of culture and health behavior, particularly as this relates to gender, sexuality, and HIV-related risk behavior. Much of my work has been concerned with sexual culture among gay and bisexual men, and its influence on sexual identity, sexual behavior, and HIV-related risk practices. I am also interested in identifying culturally appropriate HIV prevention intervention mechanisms to reach young gay and bisexual men.

  • Mitra Assemi Bennett, PharmD

    Dr. Mitra Assemi is a Professor and Experiential Program Director in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and the Associate Dean for Accreditation and Quality Improvement in the School of Pharmacy at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Assemi received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from and completed a one-year residency in general pharmacy practice at UCSF. As Associate Dean, she is responsible for accreditation of the School's Doctor of Pharmacy degree program and provides guidance for the program's organizational structure and processes related to assessment.
